From toe-tapping fun to beautiful art festivals and everything in between, Asheville is just one of those vibrant cities that always has something going on. This summer is no different. Of course, you can just sit on the porch with a good book and watch the world drift by, but if you're looking for all the best events of 2018 then read on. Here are the best summer events of 2018.


Asheville Drum Circle

Every city has a something that makes it unique. Here in Asheville we have a lot of things that make us unique, but one the most fun things is our Friday night Drum Circle. Started in 2001, this event takes place each Friday from April-October from around 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Pritchard Park in downtown Asheville. Pritchard Park is located at the intersection of Patton and College Ave, but you can just follow the sounds and rhythms of the drums. Free and open to everyone, this event highlights the inclusive and free-spirited character of Asheville. Bring the kids, bring your drum and dance, spin and laugh the night away.

Beer City Festival 

If you love celebrating all things beer while supporting a great cause, then you'll definitely want to check out the Beer City Festival. Featuring over 30 local breweries and benefiting the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Western NC, this event is sure to be one of the best of the season. Other features include live music, food, vendors, and films. Make sure to have a designated driver, and bring your own chairs or blankets. Cold Mountain Music Festival 

Just 30 miles away from Asheville you'll find the Lake Logan Conference Center. This year they will host the second Annual Cold Mountain Music Festival. This event raises funds and awareness for Lake Logan and Camp Henry. In addition to a day of top-notch musical talent, the festival will feature a kids’ area, food and beverage vendors, and an after-party at Sit 'n' Whittle Village. The 2018 lineup features Shovels & Rope, Mandolin Orange, River Whyless & The Steel Wheels, Jon Stickley Rio & the Broadcasts, and Jenny George Band.

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games

If you love bagpipes, feats of strength, great food and all things Scottish, then you can't miss the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. They begin on Thursday, July 12, 2018, with the dusk torchlight opening ceremony and continuing until July 15. This event is one of the largest Scottish games in the United States. Fun for the whole family, you'll be hooked on all things tartan by the end of the weekend. Set in the breathtaking mountains near Asheville this is a once in a lifetime event that you simply can't miss. For more information on the 2018 game's check out the games website

Downtown After Five

On the third Friday of each month from May thru September from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m., downtown Asheville comes alive with music and dancing. The Downtown After Five event is free and open to the public. Featuring local and regional bands, the event is just one of the many reasons Asheville is the perfect place for your next vacation. The event has great food vendors so come hungry. If you wish to purchase beer, you will need to buy a $2.00 wristband. Bikes and pets are prohibited from this event. Make sure to bring a chair. See you there!

RiverMusic & RiverFest 

One of the best features of Asheville is our beautiful meandering French Broad River. RiverMusic & RiverFest is a series of great summer events including live music and local food trucks. All the proceeds from the event go to support the Riverlink project, which is a non-profit dedicated to enhancing Asheville and other local projects, resources, and activities. 


Asheville Yoga Festival 

Yoga is one of the fastest growing health activities in the America. The health benefits of this ancient exercise are well documented. Asheville has a large community of yoga practitioners, and this event is one that highlights all things Yoga in our majestic city. It takes place on July 26-29. So come join us in the magical setting we call Asheville, and learn all about the benefits of Yoga. From the beginner to the experienced, there is something for everyone at this welcoming event. Shindig On The Green 

This free mountain bluegrass music and dance festival is an Asheville summer favorite. This event takes place each Saturday downtown on the Roger McGuire Green at Pack Square Park in front of City Hall. The event kicks off at seven o’clock or when the sun goes down. The event features musicians, cloggers, storytellers, and dancers from across Western North Carolina.  Admission is Free. Bring your dancing shoes! Click here for more details.
