AUGUST EVENTS

92nd Mountain Dance Folk Festival – August 2-4

Created in 1928 to share the beauty and creativity of Southern Appalachian music and dance traditions that have been handed down through generations in western North Carolina. The event is now the oldest gathering of its kind in the nation. The festival features talented performers of the high country lying between the Great Smoky and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The songs and dances shared at this event echo centuries of Scottish, English, Irish, Cherokee and African heritage found in the valleys and coves between the Great Smokies and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Bring out the family and enjoy a truly magical musical experience.

With over 205 independent restaurants and wineries represented at this event, it is truly a food and wine aficionado’s dream come true. This mouthwatering event brings out the foodie in all of us. Several events take place outside of the main event pitting the regions best chef’s and vineyards against each other, each in pursuit of bragging rights.
