Take Advantage of the Mountains
Labor Day is situated at that perfect time of year when summer is beginning to cool down after the hot, hot month of August, yet there is still the glow of summer sunshine on the lush greenery. It is the perfect time of year to indulge in some outdoor activities without fear of perspiring through your clothes or needing to layer yourself with jacket upon jacket. Which is a good thing, for we have many delightful outdoor activities for you to relish.
One of the most beautiful things to do outdoors at this time of year as you take a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation, is to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's the perfect place to catch a sunset, take in some stars, or just enjoy an afternoon picnic at one of the scenic vistas. As you take a drive along the Blue Ridge, you just might want to stop and check out the North Carolina Apple Festival. It is held annually over Labor Day Weekend in Hendersonville, NC. The town fills up with stands of freshly picked apples, arts and crafts, and that deliciously greasy festival food. It's a delicious taste of fall that you won't want to miss!
Indulge in Some Music
Asheville is a town filled with art and music. So while you are visiting, indulge in some! Asheville can seem to be bursting at the seems with music sometimes, so we wanted to make things easy for you and highlight just one event: Live After Five
All through the summer, as well as all through September, the Antler Hill and Village Winery holds a special event - Live After Five - every Friday and Saturday evening. There you can dance to live jazz and pop music, participate in a grape stomp, and indulge in wine and beer (if you are of age, of course!). You can see the schedule of live performers here.
Enjoy the Last of the Summer Food
Labor Day Weekend, when summer puts on its last show for an enraptured world, is the perfect time to indulge in the last of summer’s bounty before the fall harvest begins. You might want to check out a farmer’s market - you can look at this post for an overview of Asheville farmer’s markets - and have one last celebratory barbecue before the start of fall. After all, Labor Day Weekend is the unofficial end of summer. Of course, Asheville is teeming with restaurants of all kinds, from down home southern kitchens to fine dining and French cuisine.
Asheville is so full of life, no matter what the season is. This time of year between summer and fall, when the two seasons marry and mix into one is special, though. One day is warm and summery, and another day is crisp with a hint of autumn magic in the air. Labor Day Weekend, which falls in this lovely time of year, is the perfect time to take a vacation over an extended weekend. Spend that time with us!
