Enjoy a Labor Day Getaway in the Mountains of Western North Carolina

The Labor Day holiday is fast approaching. Have you made any plans yet? Have you considered a Labor Day holiday getaway in beautiful Western North Carolina? The Blue Ridge mountain views are spectacular, the city of Asheville is always buzzing with things to do, and the surrounding quaint mountain towns are just waiting to be explored.

There are always so many things to do here, you'll have no trouble filling your time. In fact, you will find that you won't have enough time to do all of the things you'd like to do in just one trip. In addition to the major local attractions such as the Biltmore Estate, the Grove Park Inn, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Chimney Rock State Park, (which are all day trips in and of themselves), there are always a plethora of other activities, events and festivals occurring in the area.

Over the Labor Day weekend, the Biltmore Estate wraps up its 2013 concert series with a concert by The Beach Boys and a performance by comedian Bill Engvall. The inaugural BaconFest Asheville at the Highland Brewing Company seems to be a big hit as tickets are already sold out for the event. (The good news is that there is still a chance to win tickets to the event!) Chimney Rock State Park hosts nationally recognized and award-winning storyteller John Fowler to the park. He mesmerizes audiences with his authentic Appalachian storytelling and musical performances. The best part is you're able to enjoy his performance for free with paid park admission. Downtown Asheville offers Shindig on the Green at Pack Square Park. It's a chance to sit outside, enjoy live jam sessions, and participate in the all of the musical fun.

Another big event that occurs over the Labor Day holiday in Western North Carolina is the NC Apple Festival in Hendersonville. It's a free event that is celebrated by both locals and visitors alike. Take part in Henderson County's mountain heritage with the NC Apple Festival and Street Fair, which covers nine blocks in Downtown Hendersonville's Historic Main Street. There are 200 vendors, including arts and crafts and food vendors. Look for fourteen apple growers and Hendersonville NC apples, children's and youth activities, special exhibits, open houses, food vendors, and continuous live entertainment. You won't want to miss it!

This is just a sampling of what's happening here during the Labor Day holiday. There is so much more, but we don't have the time or space in this blog to cover it all. The good news is that you can always find a comprehensive listing of area events on ExploreAsheville.com's event and festival calendar. Be sure to check it out before your visit!
