Celebrate the Fourth of July Holiday in Asheville & Western North Carolina

The Fourth of July holiday arrives next week. Can you believe it? Have you made plans to spend Independence Day in Asheville and the surrounding Western North Carolina area? We hope so. If not, it's not too late to do so. Whether you prefer a mountain cabin, a romantic getaway, a luxury vacation rental, or a convenient downtown Asheville accommodation, you can find it all here.

To help with your Fourth of July planning, we've included a listing of our favorite local happenings occurring over the holiday. There's a lot going on! We hope to see you at one or more of the festivities. Unless otherwise noted, these events are free and open to the public.

Ingles Fourth of July Celebration at Pack Square Park in Asheville
Ingles July 4th Celebration AshevillePack Square Park is hosts the Ingles Fourth of July Celebration in downtown Asheville. Beginning at 4p.m., come out and enjoy live music from some of Asheville's most popular bands, loads of family fun and activities, food and drink vendors and more.

Try your hand at some of the free family activities including carnival games, fast pitch softball, a 9-hole miniature golf course, and a rock climbing wall. There are also pie eating contests, watermelon seed spitting contests, three-legged races, sack races, and wheelbarrow races. The evening ends with a grand fireworks finale at 9:30p.m.

Downtown Black Mountain July 4th Celebration & Fireworks
The July 4th Celebration in Black Mountain offers street dance, food and fun beginning at 4p.m. and continuing through the evening. Spend the afternoon and evening in this quaint mountain town and see what it has to offer. The fireworks begin at dusk.

Swannanoa Valley Museum Sunset Fireworks Hike
Are you looking for a unique way to spend the Fourth of July holiday? Why not try the Swannanoa Valley Museum Sunset Fireworks Hike to the peak of Sunset Mountain? It's a local favorite!

The hike is followed by a watermelon cutting, a fabulous sunset, and watching the fireworks display over Black Mountain. Remember to bring your dinner, some water, a folding chair, a flashlight and a rain poncho. (Chairs will be transported for you.) Meet at 6p.m. in the parking lot of Black MountFourth of July Fireworks in Western NCain Savings Bank. Cost is $20 for members, $35 for nonmembers.

Brevard 4th of July Celebration & 19th Annual Firecracker Run
The fun starts early at the Brevard July 4th Celebration. The 5K/10K Firecracker Run begins with a bang with the race beginning at 8a.m. organized by the Rotary Club. The rest of the day is jam-packed with events that are sure to please all ages and interests. The downtown streets of Brevard are closed to traffic and filled with crowds.

Activities for the day include the Transylvania Community Arts Council's 41st Annual Fine Arts & Crafts Showcase, the Classic Automobile Show, live musical entertainment at the courthouse gazebo, a duck race (Yes, we said duck race. Adopt your duck now!), All Star Pet Show, Old Time Fair on the museum grounds, hot dog eating contest, bicycle parade, kids activities, memorial flag raising, reading of the Declaration of Independence and so much more! The night ends with a fireworks extravaganza at 9:30p.m. hosted by Brevard College.

Lake Lure Double Fireworks Show
Enjoy the opportunity for a great fireworks display twice in one week at the Lake Lure Double Fireworks Lake Lure Fireworks ShowShow on July 4 and July 6. The July 4th Fireworks display begins around 9p.m. presented by the Rumbling Bald Resort and is open to boating traffic. The second show is July 6 and is presented by the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge and the Town of Lake Lure.

Watch the show from the shores of Lake Lure or book a seat on the boat tour for either of the two shows. This allows for the best view of the fireworks! Reservations are $25 per person and are taken until 6p.m. on July 4 or until seats fill.
