Asheville Named One of America's Quirkiest Towns by Travel + Leisure

Quirk·y /ˈkwərkē/ (adjective): charaQuirky Ashevillecterized by peculiar or unexpected traits. Yep, that's Asheville for you. We guess you've heard that Asheville marches to the beat of its own drum. Well, it's true. Travel + Leisure magazine confirms that notion by putting it in the number one spot on their list of America's Quirkiest Towns. We're pretty proud of that!

Asheville's local vibe combined with its craft beer, beer doughnuts, hoptails, Friday night drum circles, BRÖÖ shampoos—and the city's overall eccentric charm—were listed as components to its quirkiness. What's not to love? And besides, being conventional is so overrated.

You can read more why Asheville ranked so high on the quirkiness scale:

Asheville, NC, for instance, ranked highly for its booming craft beer industry and diverse dining scene—but here, "diverse” goes well beyond a few good places to eat pho. On his No Taste Like Home tour, Ashevillian Alan Muskat lets visitors forage in the woods for—and then sample—wild local delicacies like "fairy potatoes,” which grow on vines, and reishi, known as the Mushroom of Immortality.

"Asheville sits smack in the middle of the most biodiverse temperate bioregion on the planet,” Muskat boasts. "So even our plants are freaky.”

We promise you that a trip to Asheville is never, ever boring. Nope. There is entirely too much to see, too much to do and way too much fun to be had. Asheville does it all with its own flair and style. Let's not forget about the Nun who hangs out at one of the downtown bars. Or the popular electronic music festival Moogfest. Or the eccentric Fringe Arts Festival and Lexington Avenue Arts and Fun Festival.

We could tell you more, but it's better if you come and experience it for yourself. Plan your Asheville vacation now and make your own list of quirky adventures. We'd love to hear about it. Cheers to quirkiness!
