Asheville Is Ready for the Holiday Season

Asheville truly comes to life during the holiday season. The scenery is spectacular, there is a refreshing chill in the air, and the streets are filled with the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Now is a wonderful time to plan an Asheville getaway. Enjoy some holiday shopping in the unique downtown storefronts, eat at some of Asheville's finest farm-to-table restaurants, and warm up with some delicious hot coffee from one of the local coffee shops.

The Biltmore Estate iChristmas at Biltmores in all its holiday splendor right now. Christmas at Biltmore is truly a sight to behold. More than a century ago, George Vanderbilt chose this magical season as the time to unveil his new home to family and friends. On Christmas Eve 1895, he opened Biltmore House’s doors for a regal yuletide celebration. This year’s Christmas at Biltmore promises another extravagant celebration, complete with dozens and dozens of Christmas trees, miles of ribbon, garland and lights and inspirational holiday demonstrations. It's a must-see destination during the holiday season.

Another holiday event to mark on your itinerary is the estate's annual Candelight Evenings at Biltmore. As daylight fades into dusk, candlelight and firelight accent Biltmore House’s extravagant holiday décor, accented by live entertainment and outside illuminations. Biltmore House glows with holiday spirit, appearing much as it would have at the turn of the 19th century. Carols from choirs and ensembles fill the halls with festive sounds. Candlelight Christmas Evenings tickets are available by reservation only, and include a self-guided candlelight tour of Biltmore House, next-day visit to the gardens, Antler Hill Village and Biltmore Winery. Advance reservations are required.

Each year, there is a Winter Wonderland at the Grove Arcade. Downtown Asheville’s historical Grove Arcade is a spectacular spot to get a jump on your holiday shopping and to support locally-owned shops and restaurants. The Arcade is decking the halls with holiday décor inside and out. The main attraction is the annual National Gingerbread House Competition hosted in partnership with The Omni Grove Park Inn. Come experience a wThe Grove Arcade in Downtown Ashevilleinter wonderland full of wintery décor and gingerbread houses from November 20 – January 2.

The Grove Arcade welcomes Santa Claus to Asheville. Warm and snug inside the Arcade’s Winter Wonderland, Santa invites Arcade visitors to check-in with him for consultations on their holiday shopping lists. Santa visits the Arcade on Saturdays from noon – 4 pm, November 30-December 21. Photos will be taken and available for purchase.

During this time of year, the Arcade’s many shops stay open until 8p.m. on Fridays, starting November 29 until December 21. The Arcade shops offer gifts ranging from folksy to contemporary. Its restaurants are open, too, and welcome you to take a break from your holiday shopping and stop in to enjoy a bite to eat.

We hope you have plans to come visit Asheville during the holidays. There's plenty to see and do, and we promise you'll enjoy every minute of your time here. If you're planning to be here, drop us a line and let us know. Cheers to the start of the holiday season!
