8th Annual Western North Carolina Run/Walk for Autism at UNC Asheville

This Saturday, September 14, come out to UNC Asheville to participate in or just support those who are participating in the 8th Annual WNC Run/Walk for Autism, which features a 5K competitive and noncompetitive run and a recreational 1K run/walk. Enjoy the day while raising awareness and funds that will be used to provide services and promote opportunities for individuals that fall within the autism spectrum locally here in Western North Carolina.

To date, the incidence of autism is now 1 in every 88 Autism Society of NCbirths. In North Carolina, two families each day have a child diagnosed with some form of autism. This is an opportunity to help fund this worthy cause. Proceeds from the 2013 WNC Run/Walk for Autism support the programs and services of the Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC). Funds raised at this event support the community services, vocational rehabilitation program, Sara Handlan Crisis Fund, supported living homes, and the advocacy programs in WNC.

Online registration for this event is now closed, but you can come to early registration at the ASNC offices on 306 Summit Street in Asheville on Friday, September 13 between 12:30-6:30p.m. or you can register the morning of the run on Saturday, September 14 from 7:30-8:45a.m. If you can't make it to the event, please consider donating to the cause. You can do that by clicking here and then clicking on the General Donation tab.

The WNC Run/Walk for Autism is both an Asheville Track Club Grand PrixWestern NC Run Walk for Autism at UNC Asheville Series race as well as a family-friendly event, so sign-up and bring your family and friends. It's a great way to spend the day together, while raising money for a common cause. You can register for the race as an individual or as a team. An awards ceremony for the competitive runners follows the race.

There are other fun festivities surrounding the race including the Fun Zone, music, refreshments, and various vendors on-hand at the event. Local businesses, service providers, support resources and other sponsors are showcased as well.

If you have any additional questions about the event that are not answered on the WNC Run/Walk website, please contact Simone Seitz at 828.236.1547 or via email at sseitz@autismsociety-nc.org.

We really hope to see you at the race this weekend. As with any local event, it's the perfect opportunity to make the most of your time in this part of the state by booking a Western North Carolina vacation rental and extending your stay. It is a beautiful time of year here in the Blue Ridge Mountains as the fall season quickly approaches. You'll find the crisp mountain air to be refreshing, the stunning panoramic views to be inspiring, and the overall ambiance to be relaxing. Come and experience it for yourself!
