5 Insanely Fun Things to do This Summer
Posted On Friday, July 3, 2015
It's easy to assume there will be lots of fun things to do after you finally choose where to spend your few precious days of vacation. However, all to often that's all it is - an assumption. You think you have this great vacation planned, you buy a couple tickets ahead of time and think you'll be able to spend the rest of your time milling around the town. It's a picturesque town, there's got to be a lot to do, right? Before you know it, you're bored out of your mind and relieved to be going back home. With a little research and few suggestions from your friendly neighborhood blogger, you can have back up plans to make sure your trip is a smash!
True to southern form, Asheville has several outdoor swimming venues for you to chose from. You can bask in the sun from the comfort of Lake Lure or Chimney Rock, (about half an hour outside Asheville). Or, if you prefer something with a little more challenge the Rocky Broad River has both, plenty of rocks for laying out on and quickly moving water.
Have a Drink
Very similar to hiking, Asheville is known for it's unique and delicious beer brews. Microbrewers from all over the country come to compete and set up shop. This provides Asheville with a unique atmosphere for it's beer culture, one that not only supports small businesses but also encourages creativity. Check out our post with a Pub and Gub Crawl for some great places to stop in for a pint and a bite.
Take a Hike
Asheville is known for it's autumn hikes. Our breathtaking scenery and stunning fall colors are known world wide as some of the most beautiful sights you will ever see. However, the many waterfalls along our various hiking trails are particularly lovely during the summer. And leaves are pretty, but there are some things that just don't bloom in fall; like flowers. If you aren't much for a hike, or are more than a little daunted by the heat and humidity characteristic of southern summaries, you can opt for a walk through Biltmore Estate's legendary gardens.
This is Art
Asheville is full of vivid groups, one of which is the art scene. While taking a tour, or visiting a museum can be expensive, Asheville has found a way to bring the art to you. The first friday of every month from April through December is the Asheville Art Walk! If you want to double check the schedule or keep an eye out for a specific artist, feel free to look at the schedule you can open off of the Downtown Asheville Art District home page.
Zip Through the Trees
I know I come back to this one often and it may just be my inner adrenaline junkie, but what could be more amazing than shooting over the summer foliage of the mountains to the heart of downtown? Almost any Asheville blog you read will talk about the views, but seeing them flash past in all their glory is a thrill anyone visiting Asheville should indulge in.
Asheville is a great place for a vacation. No matter what that means for you, going alone, with your significant other, or with a group, make sure it's got that special something to make it a hit!
