10 Fabulous October Asheville Events That Will Make Your Vacation
Can you believe that it is already October? Events in Asheville, NC, are already reflecting this fall season, with Oktoberfests, Halloweenfests, and plenty of art festivals! Asheville has a little something for everyone - find the event that speaks to you below:
1). Heritage Festival and Bascom Lamar Lunsford Music Festival
This is a fabulous all-day festival taking place in the small town of Mars Hill on Saturday, October 7th, from 10 AM - 4 PM. This celebration of the arts is the second oldest folk festival in the Southern Appalachians. For this one day you will get to experience some of this regions finest musicians and dancers as they perform for your entertainment and education. 2). Art in the Park
Do you love art shows that allow you to browse, talk with artists about their methods and inspiration, and then purchase fabulous custom pieces of art? Then you will adore Art in the Park. This fall it will be held in Pack Square Park on October 7th, 14th, and 21st from 10 AM - 5 PM. Here you can discover all kinds of beautiful art, such as pottery, metalwork, paintings, and blown glass. It is an art lovers paradise!
Music. Dancing. Beer and German food. Oktoberfest is fabulous no matter where it is located! You then put Oktoberfest in the middle of Beer City USA, and you have one of the most fantastic celebrations of German culture you can imagine! Not only can you drink some unparalleled beer in Asheville, but on October 7th, when Oktoberfest is held in Pack Square Park, but there will be delicious German staples to pair with your liquid nourishment. 4). Mountain Glory Festival
On Saturday, October 14th, Marion, NC, will host this huge (and fun!) festival celebrating the beginning of fall. There will be pet competitions, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, children’s activities, and live entertainment. It is definitely something you won’t want to miss! 5). HardLox Jewish Festival
Asheville, no matter how many times you visit, will constantly surprise you with its multiculturalism. If you would like to indulge in some incredibly delicious food just like what you would find at a local (and authentic!) New York deli - if you would like to discover a new and complex culture complete with its own rich musical tradition - then the HardLox Jewish Festival is for you! Held on October 15th in Downtown Asheville (Pack Square Park to be exact) from 11 AM - 4 PM, this festival is full of Israeli dancing, crafts…and of course food! 6). LEAF Festival
From October 19th - 22nd this year, a fabulous arts and music festival will be held in the Asheville area! The LEAF festival celebrates the power that music and art has to carry traditions and inspire people through the ages (plus the diversity that this same art and music represents). 7). Wooly Worm Festival
The Wooly Worm Festival is a fabulously fun, and sometimes uproariously funny, festival celebrating the coming of fall and winter! Held in the beautiful mountain town of Banner Elk on October 21st - 22nd, this festival is truly all about wooly worms! There will be several different races for these furry caterpillars, and the overall champion will be used to "predict” the severity of winter. Anyone can enter a wooly worm, even if you don’t arrive at the festival with one. (There will be plenty of "breeders” and "trainers” selling wooly worms for a dollar a piece!) If you have kids on vacation in Asheville, NC, with you, then this festival will be a huge hit! And you will feel good knowing that most of the proceeds go to support children’s charities throughout the county.
8). Lake Lure Arts Festival
Held on the weekend of October 21st - 22nd this year, the Lake Lure Arts and Crafts Festival brings the beautiful wares of over 80 artisans to you! On top of getting to view and purchase beautifully hand crafted items and one-of-a-kind paintings, there is the opportunity to talk with the artists themselves. Plus, there will be delicious food to enjoy and constant live entertainment! This is a festival you will not want to miss!
9). Beaverdam Studio Tour
Do you love peaking into artists’ work spaces and getting inspired by their creative inspiration? Then you will adore the Beaverdam Studio Tour! On October 28th and 29th this year the artists of the scenic Beaverdam Valley (just north of Asheville) are inviting you to take a self-guided tour of their artists’ community. You will get to see into the lives of these painters, potters, sculptors, jewelers, textile artists and more, talk with them about their creative process, and purchase some of their beautiful wares!
